There was a time this problem would have been a bit of a headache because of the magnitude of the numbers involved. But thankfully in .Net 4 we now have the BigInteger type (or bigint, its alias) which can be used to represent an arbitrarily large integer.

So once I’ve put the 100 numbers into a text file at C:\TEMP\euler13.txt, I read the data into a string[] using File.ReadAllLines and then parse each string into a BigInteger and sum them up. Once you’ve got the sum, all that’s left to do is to take the first 10 characters and that’s the answer!
